Incentives
The Government organisation – the New Zealand Film Commission (“NZFC”) administers the NZ Screen Production Rebates (“NZSPR”), on behalf of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment ("MBIE").
The full criteria for the NZSPG is available on the NZFC website.
The NZSPG for international productions including the Post, Digital and Visual Effects Rebate (“PDV”) enables eligible formats (film, television and other non-feature film formats) to access a rebate equivalent to 20% of Qualifying New Zealand Production Expenditure (“QNZPE”).
- There are minimum QNZPE spend amounts related to each format.
- There is an additional 5% of QNZPE available where productions can meet a significant economic benefits points test.
The NZSPG for New Zealand Productions for the eligible formats, whereby it is demonstrated that significant NZ content is included in the production can qualify for a rebate equivalent to 40% of QNZPE up to NZ $15 million.
Productions with QNZPE of more than NZ $15 million may apply for a 40% rebate on the additional QNZPE up to NZ $50 million subject to meeting certain criteria.
