New Foley Studio: A Partnership Between POWSTUDIOS and AVALON

Sound Developments in the Wellington Region
It is great to be aligned with one of Wellington’s leading Post Production Companies. We are grateful to John, Matt, and Jason for partnering with us. We know Carrie and Callum will bring their clients their Foley artistry.
Turns out lettuces aren’t just for eating!
Casually, back in late 2020, during what feels like a different century, we partnered with Avalon Studios on a new Foley recording studio. Obviously, we’ve kept the fanfare to a minimum but now feels like a good time to celebrate not only what has already been achieved in the space but what we’re cooking.
It’s a scene from Hoarders. Our foley studio looks like a set in itself: chaotic props, pairs of shoes for unknown characters, obscure car parts and countless pieces of cloth. It ain’t pretty, nor does it need to be, it’s all about that sound!
The studio has been churning out the tracks; we’ve performed foley for James Ashcroft’s debut feature Coming Home in the Dark, the petrol-fuelled Poppy (note: the car parts), The Meek directed by Gillian Ashurst and Dandelion, a soon to be released short featuring Rob Mokoraka and Tessa Jamieson-Karaha.
As for 2021, our foley team, headed by Carrie McLaughlin, will begin their year working on Young Lion Dancer, a Chinese animated feature for Yi Animation of Guangzhou.
